Cork: Pietersen a bad egg

New ECB director of cricket Andrew Strauss said this week that Pietersen would not be picked due to a “massive trust issue”.

The decision seemed to contradict the view of incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves, who had appeared to open the door for Pietersen’s return if the 34-year-old ??? who earlier this week scored 355no for Surrey against Leicestershire in the County Championship ??? racked up the runs in the domestic game.

But the former Yorkshire chairman has now denied that he made any promises over Pietersen???s future and former England all-rounder Cork believes the time has now come for the matter to be put to bed.

???A decision has been made on Kevin Pietersen that he will not be selected in the short-term and he probably won???t be selected again for England,??? he said.

???We have to just remember why. It???s all right saying we all feel sorry for him now because he???s got 300 against Leicester at the Oval, one of the best batting tracks against a side that hasn???t won in two years.

???People have been tweeting it???s the best innings they???ve ever seen. Really? Brian Lara???s 375 wasn???t good? Or watching Michael Atherton bat for seven hours against South Africa? Or Sanath Jayasuriya scoring 300?

???I honestly believe that not everyone has to be the same ??? you can???t always get on in teams. But when there is a bad egg in the side ??? and let???s be blatantly honest, Kevin Pietersen is a great player but a bad egg.

???He undermined Andy Flower, one of the best coaches we???ve ever had, and Alastair Cook the captain. You can???t just publish a book and slaughter everybody in the side and expect people to say ???come back in???.

???I think we need to put it bed now. Yes he???s been brilliant. Yes, we???ll all miss him. But just remember, if I worked in an office and did what he???s done, we wouldn???t have a job.

???So why are we going on about this all the time? The decision has been made. Well done to Andrew Strauss, who has been brave. I would have done exactly the same.

???Let???s finish the story off and back England behind Strauss and Cook, starting this Thursday.???
