The cruiserweight, who has not fought since November when he defeated arch-rival Nathan Cleverly, will return to action on June 26 at the Echo Arena alongside fellow Liverpudlians Callum Smith, Rocky Fielding and David Price.??
Bellew’s opponent is yet to be announced but Coldwell revealed that plans are already underway to secure the 32-year-old a world title shot, providing there are no mishaps in Liverpool next month.
IBF champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez and WBO champion Marco Huck currently lead the way in the cruiserweight division and both would provide a stiff examination of Bellew’s credentials.??
But when asked whether talks had been held with the representatives of either fighter, Coldwell told Toe2Toe: “I am not sure I am allowed to say. But what I can say is that the future for Tony will be going for the world title. We are looking for that to happen around September, October time.??
“They [Hernandez and Huck] are the two best in the division. So the man Tony is going to fight for a world title is going to be a very good fighter. It will be a very hard and tough fight, but if Tony beats the man he faces then he can hold his head up high.??
“Some fighters get an opportunity against a weak world champion. That can be down to the timing of when they get their chance. But it allows them to be the favourite going into the fight.??
“Tony is not one of those fighters. And nobody will be able to give him any more grief, saying he is not a worthy champion, because he would have earned it the hard way.”
