After the first two quarters Brunei led 23-18 after an exciting first-half.
Thai coach Chng Li Li made changes which seemed to have the desired effect.
The Thais won the third quarter outscoring Brunei 15-5 and then lost the fourth 11-12 but managed to win 45-40 overall.
In the third match Singapore and Malaysia drew 35-35 in an exciting encounter.
The sides went into the half-time break with Singapore leading 22-19 and increased their lead by winning the third quarter 8-5.
Malaysia played very well and threw caution to the wind to come out winning the fourth quarter 11-5 to draw the match.
