Beattie: Monk can be great

Beattie played alongside Monk while the pair were at Southampton and after spending time observing coaching sessions at Swansea earlier this year, he was added to the club???s coaching staff in June.

The former England striker told Sky Sports: ???It???s great to see him doing so well. He always had a very academic eye for football as well as being a very good player.?? I think he???ll go on to be one of the top managers in the country. To be part of his team now by his invitation, I???m very honoured.???

Monk led Swansea to an eighth-place finish and record points total in the Premier League last season and Beattie believes Monk???s management style is the key to their success.

???He???s very much the modern day manager, he???s very personable. His attention to detail and the way he wants to play is very structured in his mind,??? he said.

???He deals with the players one on one and he???s created a very good environment at Swansea.?? The sky is the limit for him if he continues to work the way he has been.???

Beattie was speaking at The Blandford School in Dorset where he was unveiled as an Ambassador for the Football Foundation as part of their 15 -year anniversary celebrations. The former Everton striker led a coaching session on the school???s new 3G artificial grass pitch that was funded by the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund ??? which is delivered by the Football Foundation

Beattie first came into contact with the Football Foundation when he was manager at League Two side Accrington Stanley. The club used a Football Foundation-funded facility as their training ground and he explained how the cause is something close to his heart.

???We were desperately trying to find a training ground,??? he said. ???I drove all around Greater Manchester looking for a suitable site. It???s not until you have to look for quality facilities that you realise that the country does not have them in the quantity we need.??

???Grassroots football is something that is essential to the success of the sport in the country and to getting more people participating.?????
