A Tweet posted on the Garnek Media site read: “Jimmy Burchfield, CES, Mariusz Kolodziej, Global Boxing: ‘We have agreement for Anthony Joshua vs Mariusz Wach bout, Sept 12 in UK.'”
An account under the name of??Kolodziej, one of Wach’s promoters, also posted a tweet indicating that Joshua would face the Pole on September 12.
Wach (31-1-0-KO17) impressed the boxing world in taking Wladimir Klitschko the distance in November 2012 – his only career defeat to date – and he stopped former Joshua opponent Konstantin Airich in six rounds on Friday.
He is likely to provide Joshua with his toughest test to date after the Olympic champion made short work of Kevin Johnson on May 30 – retiring the American with a second-round stoppage and sending out another message to the division.
There had been speculation Joshua would face a domestic rival next up with both Dillian Whyte, who beat him in the amateurs, and David Price throwing their hats into the ring.
But it seems the 25-year-old may instead face ‘The Viking’, who was born in Krakow but is now based in New Jersey, USA.
