Heavy bets Carlyn Bless Guarde and Mary Aubrey Calma claimed the first two semifinal seats after hacking out convincing victories in the 16-under division of the Cebuana Lhuillier Girls’ Tennis Challenge on Saturday at the Valle Verde Country Club Tennis courts.
Guarde, ranked no. 1 in the 16-under, swept her elimination-round assignments en route to a 3-0 record in Group A, while Bayking entered the semis after winning two of her three games in the preliminaries.
In Group B action, Gennifer Pagente and Melanie Dizon took the remaining two slots in the under-16 with similar 2-1 cards in the elims.
Meantime, the under-14 division saw top seed Alexandra Eala and Bless Bayking claim the first two semifinal seats after hacking out convincing victories against their respective opponents.
Eala posted a 3-0 record in the eliminations at Group A, while Bayking entered the semis after winning two of her three games in the preliminaries.
On the other hand, Miles Vitaliano and Macie Carlos completed the semis cast for the 14-under division after registering 3-0 and 2-1 cards, respectively at Group B.
“The matches have been action-packed with everyone delivering a powerful performance. This tournament is really a great showcase of Filipino junior players,” said PhilTA Chairman of the Board and Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier.
Only the champions for each division will earn the right to represent the Philippines in the upcoming WTA Future Stars tournament in Singapore this October.
