Triathlete ‘taken out’ by a deer

Shane O’Reilly, who was taking part in the cycling leg of a triathlon in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, was unexpectedly knocked off his bike by a deer that came suddenly out of the bushes.

A picture taken by Erik Scraggs and uploaded to Twitter shows the deer knocking the 30-year-old O’Reilly off his bike.

Afterwards, when interviewed by RTE, O’Reilly said that he was not badly injured and finished the race despite cracking his helmet.

“The helmet definitely saved me. Apart from that my shoulder was a bit sore and had a headache,” O’Reilly said.
