Davis, who has not played in the NBA since he suffered a severe knee injury in the 2012 playoffs, is aiming to sign with any of the league's 30 teams ahead of the upcoming season.
"This is the first time I'm going to put myself out there, I'm going to try out for some teams," Davis said during an interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio.
Davis, who is a 13-year veteran of the league, was one of the top-rated point guards in his prime and boasts career averages of 16.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
However, Davis' career began to go downhill when he was a member of the New York Knicks in the 2011/12 NBA season as he averaged only 6.1 points and 4.7 assists in 29 games.
His career was then brought to an end when he suffered a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee and complete tears of the right ACL and MCL during the playoffs.
