Matt Carpenter and Randal Grichuk both hit two-run homers in a 4-3 win for the St Louis Cardinals over the Kansas City Royals while the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Oakland Athletics 5-2.

A four-run first innings powered the New York Yankees to a 9-3 success against the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates overcame the Washington Nationals 7-3.

In the day’s other games, the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 8-1 and the Arizona Diamondbacks were 8-3 victors against the Milwaukee Brewers.
