SMB star Arwind Santos not in a rush to play after knee surgery

With San Miguel Beer getting off to a 2-0 start, veteran forward Arwind Santos is not in a rush to join the Beermen in the PBA Governors Cup.

The 6-foot-4 Santos underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee 2 weeks ago. But the “Spiderman” said he has since started doing his knee rehab as he fasttracks his recovery.

“Tingin ko 2 weeks na lang makakapaglaro na ako kasi kaya ko na. Pero naninigurado lang sila coach and mga PT namin para mas malakas ako sa pagbalik ko,” Santos said.

The former Far Eastern University star though has yet to join the team’s scrimmage.

“Marami na ako ginagawang activities dun sa practice.  Nakaka-dunk na ako, pero di lang maiwasan dahil alam din ng mga PT namin ano ang maganda para sa akin,” added the SMB forward, who averaged 12.67 points, 7.56 rebounds and 1.54 blocks in the first 2 conferences.

Santos explained that the minor surgery had to be done to remove floating debris on his knee.

“Nilinis lang siya (knee) pero wala naman fracture, ngayon fully loaded na yung legs ko para di na bumalik yung injury,” shared the 35-year-old one-time PBA MVP.

With the team’s back-to-back wins to start the conference, Santos believes he will just have to ease his way back slowly in the weeks to come.

“Naka-dalawang panalo na kami and kaht healthy na ako, nagpapanalo na kami kaya ayaw ko muna bumalik kasi ayaw ko naman putulin yung momentum ng team namin,” he said. – Richard Dy
