Sopoaga ready to unleash backs on Brumbies

Highlanders fly-half Lima Sopoaga is expecting his pack to deliver enough quality ball for the backs to cause the Brumbies issues on Friday.

The defending champions' forwards are beginning to gain international recognition, with Elliot Dixon and Liam Squire both capped in June by the All Blacks, but Sopoaga knows their qualities inside out after their run to the title in 2015.

"If they can get us enough quality ball you know what quality weapons we have got out in our backline and all I have to do is just feed them and let them do their job," Sopoaga told the Super Rugby website.

"This is what we play rugby for, it's the big occasion and looking back on last year and how special it was hopefully we can look to do something similar but, as always, it's one week at a time and you never know when you time is up so this week is all Brumbies and that's it."

Any potential jitters for the Highlanders will also have been lessened by the experience of last season, Sopoaga believes, even if the side aren't dwelling on their past success.

"It's not such new territory for us this year but early in the week we just build and get ready for Friday. We just try and cover all our bases as well as we can and whatever happens on Friday night happens," he added.

"There were no comparisons with last year. While 2015 had been great, it was in the past and the focus was now on this year's competition.

"We've got to come prepared and to throw everything at it."
