China's Liu Hong won the women's 20 kilometres walk to hand the host country their first gold medal at the Athletics World Championships on Friday in Beijing.
Liu headed a Chinese one-two in the walk with countryman Lu Xiuzhi finishing second.
On a very hot day in Beijing the two started off at a brisk pace and built up a huge lead, Liu eventually winning gold with a time of 1:27:45.
Lu finished a second behind followed by Ukraine's Lyudmyla Olyanovska 28 seconds behind in third.
"There was a lot of pressure but I was confident in this mission," said Liu.
"When we hit the front at the start I didn't think we were going that quick but nobody followed us, so we just carried on. It's a dream to win the gold," she added.
