‘Frisby deserves debut’ – Genia

Former Reds scrum-half Will Genia has spoken of a message he sent Nick Frisby to achieve his goal of being called up to the Wallabies.

Frisby looks set to make his debut for the Wallabies after being included in the squad that will take on England in a three-match Test series.

Frisby’s former team-mate, who started ahead of him in the scrum-half jersey for four years, was the first to congratulate him on his achievement.

Genia told Fox Sports that he sent Frisby a motivational message while travelling to the World Cup final last year.

“For some strange reason I was thinking of Fris so I texted him on the bus on the way to the World Cup final to make the Reds jersey his own and to be better than I ever was,” said Genia.

“I meant it. He’s a very naturally gifted footballer."

The Wallaby scrum-half added: “He was always someone who lacked opportunity to hone those skills under pressure and work on executing them on a consistent basis due to players being in front of him.

“The biggest thing I wanted to impress upon him was to back those skills and instincts he had, to trust his ability to make decisions he felt were right.”
