Rodriguez powers to stage 15 win

Joaquim Rodriguez put on a master-class on the slopes of Sostres in Spain to win stage 15 of the Vuelta a Espana on Sunday.

The Spaniard delighted the partisan crowds with a stunning performance in the mountains that saw him move up to second in the overall general classification.

All the big players with the exception of Tom Dumoulin were in the leading pack as the gradient increased inside the final 2km.

The Rodriguez attack would see race leader Fabio Aru, Rafael Majka and Nairo Quintana all react, but Quintana only lasted a matter of metres before he cracked.

Majka and Aru would also fall off the back with around 600m to go as the Team Katusha rider simply had too much power for the other climbers to handle.

Quintana would recover somewhat to crawl over the line in fourth, behind Daniel Morenao and Majka.

The exceptional ride sees Rodriguez move to within one second of Aru, who just holds on to the red jersey for tomorrow's 185km mountain stage.
