Woodward takes his chance

Hurricanes winger Jason Woodward has grasped his chance after he was picked in the Wellington side's starting XV against the Reds at the weekend.

With Cory Jane and Julian Savea among five players dropped for breaking the team's curfew while on tour in South Africa, Woodward, who was amongst the replacements for most of the Hurricanes' previous matches, was promoted to start against the Reds and scored two tries in the Hurricanes' 29-14 victory.

"There was obviously a balls-up over in South Africa and we've dealt with that," Woodward told Fairfax Media.

"I focus on my game and the same with everyone else. We all focus on the part we have to play."

Although it wasn't the Hurricanes' best performance of the season, Woodward was encouraged by the team's attitude, especially after they suffered a 32-15 defeat against the Sharks in their previous match.

"Last week we couldn't really get our game going and when we had opportunities we didn't take them," he added.

"This week we struggled to get our game going early on, but when we did get those opportunities we were able to take them."
