Read not concerned by yellow card

The only negative out of the Crusaders' big win over the Reds on Friday was their discipline, including a yellow card for captain Kieran Read.

Read was sin-binned by referee Brendon Pickerill for collapsing a Reds maul but it had no impact on the result, as the Crusaders recorded an eighth straight win.

The All Blacks number eight though was keen to review the tape to see where the side were going wrong with their maul defence ahead of next Friday's meeting with the Highlanders.

"He had given us that warning. It was the call against the team, rather than myself. I was just at the bottom of the pile," Read told Stuff.

"It's one of those things. I don't think we were trying to do it deliberately but he was probably at a point where he had to make a stand.

"It will be interesting to have a look at them.

"Once it goes that way we just have to step back and go 'hey it is not going our way – let's focus on other ways to get that ball back'. We will look at that on Monday."

Jone Macalai's hat-trick stole the headlines as the Crusaders kept their impressive season going in head coach Todd Blackadder's final campaign.
