2014 – Rory and Caroline call it quits
On this day in 2014, sporting power couple Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki ended their relationship via a phone call.
The Northern Irishman had proposed in December 2013, but when the wedding invitations went out, he had a change of heart.
“The problem is mine,” he said at the time.
“The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had.”
1994 – A star is born
Tom Daley has become Britain’s most prolific high diver all before his 22nd birthday.
The Englishman has been making an impact in international competitions since the age of nine. Daley was part of the Great Britain team at the 2008 Summer Olympics when he was just 14-years old, making him the youngest competitor of any nationality outside the sport of swimming.
While he impressed, he didn’t medal at the Games. However, four years later in London he won bronze in the 10m platform event and has since won multiple medals at the World Championships.
