The Olympic flame has arrived safely in Brazil following a special flight from Geneva in Switzerland.
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was on hand to receive the flame in the capital, Brasilia, after which she ignited the special torch that will make its way around Brazil.
Fabiana Claudino, the captain of the Brazilian volleyball team, received the torch as the first runner.
The torch will be carried by no less than 12 000 runners before it finally arrives in Rio on Friday 5 August for the opening ceremony.
The journey will pass through over 300 towns, parts of the Amazon rainforest and along the nation’s southern most border.
