Hong Kong Sevens: Day Two, Wrap

Seven of the top eight teams in the World Rugby Sevens Series standings have made it into the Cup quarter-finals after a thrilling second day of action in Hong Kong.

In the Cup quarter-finals New Zealand play Wales, USA play South Africa, Fiji take on Kenya and England face Australia. In the bowl quarter-finals for the sides who finished third and fourth in the pools, France play Korea, Argentina play Russia, Canada face Samoa and Scotland take on Portugal.

New Zealand maintained control in Pool A with a 5-0 win against Kenya and 28-10 victory over Samoa. Samoa, Kenya and France all finished up on five points, but due to points difference Kenya advanced into the last eight.

Despite losing to England on day one, South Africa regained their form and bagged two wins with 81 unanswered points against Russia and Scotland. England beat Scotland 19-0 early on day two, but were held to a draw by a resurgent Russia in their last match of the day.

USA remained unbeaten in Pool C after beating Argentina 26-14 and Australia 22-7 to go through and face South Africa in the Cup quarter-finals. Despite their loss to USA, Australia's 45-7 win over Portugal combined with their 28-0 win over Argentina on day one gave them sufficient points to go through into the last eight and face England.

Fiji went from strength-to-strength after their narrow win against Canada on day one. Ben Ryan's side beat South Korea 57-0, then went on to overpower Wales 36-10. However Wales' earlier 24-10 win against Canada and their day one victory over South Korea secured them second place in the Pool and a quarter-final match up with New Zealand.
