NHL Review: Panthers comeback stuns Canadiens

Aleksander Barkov’s dramatic goal with less than 30 seconds left capped a stunning Florida Panthers comeback against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Panthers were trailing 3-0 midway through the second period, before they kicked into gear, with Barkov’s second of the match sealing a remarkable 4-3 win.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are hot on the heels of the Panthers in the Atlantic Conference with a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Brian Boyle and Nikita Kucherov scored in the third period to give the Lightning the win.

The Pittsburgh Penguins booked their place in the Stanley Cup play-offs for a 10th successive season with a 5-0 romp of the New York Islanders while Dallas Stars coach Jordie Benn enjoyed a 700th career win with a 3-2 success over the LA Kings.

The New York Rangers are still sweating on their play-off berth after a 4-3 defeat to the Buffalo Sabres, but there will be no post-season action for the Carolina Hurricanes after a 5-1 defeat against the Colombus Blue Jackets, inspired by Brandon Saad’s hat-trick.

The San Jose Sharks beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 in overtime, the Philadelphia Flyers were 3-2 victors over the Ottawa Senators, while the Detroit Red Wings were too strong for the Toronto Maple Leafs, winning 3-2.

The Calgary Flames made light work of the Edmonton Oilers in a 5-0 rout, while the Washington Capitals were defeated 3-0 by the Arizona Coyotes.
