Cane cited for dangerous tackle

Sam Cane of the Chiefs has been cited for alleged foul play during the Super Rugby match against the Jaguares.

Cane is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling, when he made contact with the Jaguares prop Nahuel Chaparro at a tackle contest during the match between the Jaguares and Chiefs at Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires.

Upon further review of the match footage, the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAAR Duty Judicial Officer Chris Morris.

All SANZAAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to a Duty Judicial Officer hearing to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.

For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the DJO.

Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling: A player must not tackle (or try to tackle) an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders. A tackle around the opponents head or neck is dangerous play.
