She might play like a veteran on the court, but UP rookie Isa Molde was like a happy child after the Lady Maroons took down Ateneo in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament last Sunday.
“Nakaka-overwhelm. Masaya kasi 2-time defending champions ‘yun,” she said. “Para sa amin po nakaka-proud. Kasi lahat naman kami gusto manalo and lahat ng team gusto manalo vs Ateneo.”
Molde, who had 15 points off 10 hits, 4 aces and a block, said coach Jerry Yee instructed them to stay focused and not mind the loud cheers and jeers inside the jampacked venue.
It also helped that after losing to the Lady Eagles in their 1st round matchup, the Hope Christian HS alumna and her teammates badly wanted to get back at Ateneo and prove they are a team to watch for.
“Pag natalo na namin sila, kaya na namin,” she said. “May goal kasi kami na manalo, mag-top, kung kaya namin mag-finals, gagawin namin.”
Now that the Lady Maroons are the talk of the town with Molde at the forefront, the Diliman freshman emphasizes she is not too engrossed in going after the Rookie of the Year award.
