After dropping back-to-back assignments, UST finally found the right combination after edging winless UE, 25-21, 26-24, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 78 men’s volleyball tournament Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
With more rhythm in their attacks, the Tiger Spikers harassed the Red Warriors’ floor defense, resulting to 34 attack points that spelled the difference in the game.
“Nakilala na nila kung sinong go-to-guy which is na-utilize naman without too much prompting from the bench,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon.
Manuel Medina and Tyrone Carodan anchored the offense for the Tigers, combining for 20 kills and finishing with 16 and 12 markers apiece.
In its 1st 2 games, UST struggled to stay in the game due to costly unforced errors, but the Espana squad turned the story around this time as they notched their maiden win of the season.
Down by 5 late in the 2nd set, the Tigers rallied back to steal the frame with the help of UE’s timely miscues.
“Nag-reconstruct kami last week, nag galit galitan ako. Buti ngayon we got our 1st win, hopefully mas competitive na doon sa next game,” said Mamon.
