NU scored a massive 4-set win over La Salle last Wednesday, but even with the big feat, Lady Bulldogs star spiker Jaja Santiago is far from impressed with how she performed.
“Lahat ng player, gutom sa improvement. Nakukulangan pa rin ako,” she said. “Hindi ako satisfied sa laro ko. Kasi sa laro ko dati, alam ko may ibubuga ako.”
The 6-foot-5 Santiago played a starring role in the upset, scoring 16 points as they beat the Lady Spikers, 25-16, 26-24, 14-25, 25-23.
However, the towering NU belle just had 3 blocks.
“Sa blocking ko ako na-down kasi ang laki-laki ko tapos hindi ko magawa,” she rued.
Nonetheless, Santiago hopes this is the start of something big for the Lady Bulldogs, who defeated the same team in Game 1 of their Final Four stepladder battle in 2015 only to lose in Game 2.
“Nakaka high morale, kasi yung team na nahihirapan kami talunin dati, natalo na namin, at the 2nd time pa,” she added.
The Sampaloc spikers next face winless UE — a team that hasn’t scored a victory in more than 3 seasons. With this, Santiago warns against overconfidence.
“Nandoon yung kumpyansa, pero hindi sobra-sobra,” she said. “Level lang para hindi bumagsak. Gagamitin lang namin yun para maging motivation.” — By Arylle Magtalas
