Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses was as confused as his wards as to what happened in their 4-set loss to NU Saturday in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Falcons started the opening set with eagerness and intensity, but faltered when the Lady Bulldogs upped the ante in the next 3 sets.
Trying to explain what just transpired, Meneses was at a loss for words.
“Hindi ko alam,” he said. “Biglang nabaliktad yung momentum. Napunta sa kanila yung magandang serve, napunta sa amin yung pangit na receive.”
Meneses said they were prepared for Jaja Santiago and actually devised a strategy to make the 6-foot-5 wunderkind work harder for her points.
Team captain Mylene Paat has a clearer view of Adamson’s downfall.
“Lumabas lahat nung 1st set,” she said. “Pero after, nagmamadali na lahat.”
Paat, who had 11 points, added it was her job to motivate her teammates, but even she admitted she was not at her best.
“Nagkulang din ako, lalo na sa blocking ko,” the Pangasinan native shared. “As a captain, kailangan ko pa sila i-motivate dahil hindi pa naman tapos.”
Meneses shares the same sentiment.
“Mahaba pa naman ang UAAP, review nalang ulit, pero alam ko makakabawi sila,” he said. — By Arylle Magtalas
