Baron ready to be part of La Salle’s twin towers

Majoy Baron is ready to be part of La Salle’s twin towers.

The junior middle blocker helped the Lady Spikers escape pesky FEU in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Philsports Arena, tallying 8 points off 6 hits and 2 blocks.

“It’s time to step up because a lot of my teammates will be graduating,” she told FOX Sports in Filipino. “Our seniors motivate me to improve this season and help them leave the UAAP as champions.”

Playing a bit role in each of her 1st 2 seasons in the collegiate ranks, Baron showed noticeable improvement and joined veterans Mika Reyes, Ara Galang and Carol Cerveza in firing 48 kills on the Lady Tamaraws’ defense.

“In every game, I’ll do my best and will offer it to our seniors who are playing for their last year,” said the 5-foot-11 Baguio native.

After this season, the back-to-back runners-up will bid goodbye to 5 veterans including Reyes, Galang, Cerveza, setter Mika Esperanza and outside hitter Cyd Demecillo.

Baron also likened the fact they have more firepower this year, with Galang back in the fold after a season-ending injury in 2015.

“It really feels good that she’s back. We saw how hard it was without her,” she said. “We were able to adjust when she was injured and it pushed us further to improve.” — By Jason Mercene
