They won’t be favored when they meet powerhouse La Salle on Saturday, but don’t count on Jewel Lai and UP to simply roll the carpet for the Lady Spikers.
After winning just a set in 2 matches in Season 77, the Lady Maroons believe it will be a different story this time.
“Last year, our floor defense and blocking didn’t work. We also lacked exposure and experience,” the sophomore setter told FOX Sports in Filipino.
“This year, I believe we can beat them. We were able to play during the off-season and we were able to fix our defense this time around.”
It is easier said than done and Lai knows it. But the Hope Christian HS alum also knows what it will take to bring the fight to the Taft spikers.
“We just need to play as a team,” she said. “Even if they are veterans in this tournament, we shouldn’t be scared of the achievements that they have.”
Lai also talked about La Salle’s star playmaker, Kim Fajardo, and said she isn’t worried about the Season 76 Best Setter.
“I know that Kim Fajardo is a good setter, she’s already experienced in what she does. But I have to believe that whatever she can do, I can also do it as well,” Lai shared.
