Ara Galang scored 10 points in her first game back from a massive knee injury, helping La Salle clinch a 3-set sweep of Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
The Pampanga native didn’t show an inch of fear, as she took on the Lady Tamaraws’ defense in the Lady Spikers’ 29-27, 25-23, 25-20 win.
“Super happy, but not contented,” she said. “I feel blessed that I became part of the lineup, and now, I am part of the first six again.”
It was a long time coming for Galang, who tore the ACL and MCL on her knee in a Final Four matchup against National University in Season 77.
After almost a full year of recovery, she’s back to where she belongs.
“I am 100% okay,” she stressed. “I have no fear at all. I am more aware now. Many athletes have experienced this injury. And they (experts) said the fear was just psychological, so that’s what I tried to overcome right away.”
Despite playing a vital role in La Salle’s first triumph of the season, Galang knows she can do so much more.
“I have more experience,” she said. “I have more to contribute than just scoring.” — By Arylle Magtalas
