After helplessly seeing her teammates fall in the finals in Season 77, Mika Esperanza is excited just to be available when De La Salle University kicks off its 2016 UAAP women’s volleyball campaign.
“I’m excited because after a year, I’ll be able to play again,” she told FOX Sports the night before facing FEU at the Philsports Arena.
“I also feel sad because this is my last year which means, it’s all or nothing,” she added.
Admitting that pressure will always be there, the Season 74 Rookie of the Year chose to look on the brighter side of things.
“There’s no difference from last year, except for the idea of enjoying every moment of this season since it’s my last,” she said. “Pleasure instead of pressure.”
While many of the teams have seen their rosters improve, the veteran-laden Lady Spikers remain one of the favorites to make it all the way this season, with Esperanza joining former MVP Ara Galang and old hands Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo and Cyd Demecillo.
“It’s very challenging, since this will mean that we also need to step-up our game,” she said. “Nonetheless, it makes us push ourselves harder each day.” — By Joyce Palad
