NBA Roundup: Bulls charge past Cavaliers

The Chicago Bulls marched past the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-83, on Cavs new coach Tyronn Lue’s debut on Saturday night in Cleveland.

Pau Gasol was on fire for the Bulls scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Jimmy Butler scored 20 points; Nikola Mirotic added 17 and Taj Gibson 15. In the third quarter the Bulls lead by 17 points and never let the Cavaliers get back in, the nearest they got was to eight points in the fourth.

For the Cavs, LeBron James was the top performer scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists while J.R. Smith nailed 18 points.

The Charlotte Hornets cruised past the New York Knicks 97-84 for their third win in four games, with Jeremy Lin and Kemba Walker both scoring 26 points.

P.J. Hairston also shone for the Hornets scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Knicks, Derrick Williams was their top performer with 19 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Kristaps Porzingis also got 13 points.

Ryan Anderson nailed 23 points with six 3-pointers as the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Milwaukee Bucks 116-99 in New Orleans.

In the third quarter, Milwaukee lead 71-69 after Khris Middleton scored 14 points in the first 9 minutes but the Pelicans responded with Jrue Holiday, Toney Douglas, Tyreke Evans and Anderson all hitting 3-pointers and Anderson’s sixth 3-pointers gave the Pelicans a 100-83 lead with 6:30 left.

For the Pelicans, Anthony Davis scored 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

For Milwaukee, Middleton and Greg Monroe both scored 22 points.

The Minnesota Timberwolves got past the Memphis Grizzlies 106-101 to snap their four-match winning streak with Shabazz Muhammad scored 25 points and Ricky Rubio nailed 15 points, 12 assists and six rebounds.

The top performer for the Grizzlies was Mario Chalmers scoring 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Phoenix Suns beat Atlanta Hawks 98-95 with Archie Goodwin hitting a 3-pointer with 0.1 seconds left to end a six-game losing streak.

Goodwin scored a total of 24 points while Tyson Chandler scored 13 points with a record 27 rebounds and five assists.

The top performer for the Hawks was Dennis Schroder with 19 points, one rebound and five assists while Kent Bazemore scored 21 points.

The Denver Nuggets sneaked past the Detroit Pistons 104-101 thanks to a huge 39-24 third quarter in a match that the Pistons looked to have had the edge winning three of the four quarters.

The star performer for the Nuggets was Danilo Gallinari with 30 points, six rebounds and two assists while for the Pistons their top performer was Marcus Morris with 20 points, two rebounds and two assists.

The Portland Trail Blazers got past the Los Angeles Lakers 121-103 thanks to a big opening 37-22 opening quarter and 39-24 third quarter to win comfortably.

Damian Lillard was in red hot form scoring 36 points, one rebound and five assists for the Trail Blazers.

For the Lakers, D’Angelo Russell scored 21 points, one rebound and two assists.

The Sacramento Kings defeated the Indiana Pacers 108-97 with DeMarcus Cousins on for scoring 48 points, 13 rebounds with two assists.

For the Pacers, Paul George was their top performer with 34 points, four rebounds and one assist.
