Calgary Flames too hot for Panthers

Rookie Sam Bennett scored four times as the Calgary Flames crushed the Florida Panthers 6-0 in the NHL on Wednesday night.

Bennett completed his hat-trick in the opening period and Johnny Gaudreau potted his 19th goal of the season as the Flames sped into a 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Mason Raymond added a fifth goal in the middle stanza before Bennett completed his career night with just 25 seconds left in the game.

Jonas Hiller turned away 15 goals for his first shutout of the season in the Flames goal.

Jakub Voracek had a goal and two assists to edge Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 victory over Boston Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center and in the process he passed 400 points in the league.

Claude Giroux assisted on all three Flyers goals as they stretched their winning run to four games.

Boone Jenner, Alexander Wennberg and Brandon Dubinsky scored goals as Joonas Korpisalo made a career-high 41 saves to help Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-1 win over Toronto Maple Leafs.

Goals in the last five minutes of the game from Shea Theodore, Carl Hagelin and Jakob Silfverberg enabled Anaheim Ducks to pull away to a 4-1 victory over Ottawa Senators.
