Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak says rookie left tackle Ty Sambrailo needs season-ending surgery on his left shoulder.
Sambrailo was injured on September 27 at Detroit and hasn't played since. He returned to practice last week but was deactivated against Green Bay on Sunday night.
Kubiak said doctors determined Sambrailo wasn't going to improve without surgery, which will occur sometime within the next week.
The Broncos selected Sambrailo in the second round out of Colorado State with plans to play him at right tackle. They moved him over to protect Peyton Manning's blind side after Ryan Clady tore up a knee at a practice in May.
Ryan Harris has played left tackle in his place with Michael Schofield on the right side.
