Avs crush Edmonton; Blues end Flames streak

The Colorado Avalanche romped to a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at the Pepsi Center on Saturday evening. 

The Avs, who recorded their fifth consecutive win, moved to 17-16-1 for the season after goals from Blake Comeau, Tyson Barrie, Nick Holden, Jarome Iginla and Jack Skille, with Semyon Varlamov making 39 saves for the hosts. 

Andrej Sekera scored the Oilers only goal of the game, as Edmonton fell to 14-18-2 and finished a four-game road trip with a 1-3-0 record having lost three in a row after a six-game winning streak previously. 

Elsewhere, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-2, the Dallas Stars cruised to a 6-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens, the Colombus Blue Jackets snuck past the Philadelphia Flyers, the Toronto Maple Leafs romped to a 5-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings and the Arizona Coyotes beat the New York Islanders 1-0. 

Also, the St Louis Blues ended the Calgary Flames seven-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory at the Scottrade Center.

Vladimir Tarasenko recorded his 21st goal of the season as the Blues (20-10-4) extended their winning streak against the Flames (15-15-2) to six games. Colton Parayko scored for the first time in 10 games, Jori Lehtera also scored and Alexander Steen had two assists for St. Louis, while Sean Monahan and Mark Giordano notched in the third period to put some gloss on the scoreline for the visitors.

Meanwhile, the Anaheim Ducks beat the New Jersey Devils 2-1, the Carolina Hurricanes also secured a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Nashville Predators downed the Minnesota Wild 3-2.
