Capitals cruise to win over Rangers

The Washington Capitals cruised to a 7-3 win over the New York Rangers in the NHL on Sunday.

Despite racing to a 3-1 lead after the first period, New York could not sustain their form and shipped six goals without managing a reply.

Justin Williams scored twice for Washington who secured a fifth successive victory and share the NHL overall lead with the Dallas Stars after reaching the 50-point mark.

It took a shoot-out for the in-form Boston Bruins to edge out the New Jersey Devils 2-1, with Ryan Spooner scoring the decisive goal. Loui Eriksson had fired Boston into an early lead before Andy Greene levelled up in the second period.

Veteran Czech Jaromir Jagr took outright ownership of fourth place on the all-time NHL goals list, netting once and moving to 732 career strikes when helping the Florida Panthers to a 5-4 win against the Vancouver Canucks.

Steven Stamkos scored twice as the Tampa Bay Lightning enjoyed a 5-2 win against the Ottawa Senators, while the Detroit Red Wings were 4-2 victors against the Calgary Flames and Jonathan Toews struck in overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 victory against the off-form San Jose Sharks.
