Stars shine in win over Hurricanes

Radek Faksa's first ever NHL goal helped the Western Conference-leading Dallas Stars to a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at the PNC Arena on Friday night.

Jordan Staal opened the scoring for the hometown Hurricanes early in the second period but Ales Hemsky's second goal of the season sent the teams into the second intermission level.

Patrick Sharp put the Stars ahead before Czech Faksa – a first-round pick in the 2012 Entry Draft – scored on a rebound. Jason Demers scored into the empty net to wrap things up.

Oscar Lindberg grabbed the winner to edge the New York Rangers to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.

Nathan MacKinnon put the Avalanche ahead on the powerplay but Derek Stepan levelled with a man-advantage goal of his own before Lindberg's seventh of the season gave the Rangers a fourth straight triumph.

Phil Kessel scored the winning goal midway through the final period to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 success against the Edmonton Oilers, while Jakub Kindl's overtime strike earned the Detroit Red Wings a 2-1 victory over Original Six rivals the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Lee Stempniak, Kyle Palmieri, Travis Zajac and Mike Cammalleri found the net as the New Jersey Devils picked up a 4-2 win over defending Stanley Cup champions the Chicago Blackhawks.

Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf each had three-point nights as the Anaheim Ducks extended their winning run to three games by seeing off the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2.
