World number one Lee Chong Wei has been provisionally suspended for violating The Badminton World Federation's (BWF) anti-doping regulations.
A BWF statement read, "The world-governing body has imposed this suspension due to an Adverse Analytical Finding of a sample taken at the BWF World Championships in August."
The BWF has referred to it as an "apparent" doping violation, indicating that perhaps they accept Chong Wei's version of events. The suspension is the result of a 'B' sample that tested positive for the presence of dexamethasone, a product that is on the BWF's banned substances list.
The 33-year-old has insisted that he would never resort to cheating; however, the player is temporarily banned from competing in any competitions while the investigation is ongoing.
The BWF revealed that the matter will be heard by their doping hearing panel.
