Lundqvist powers Rangers; Stars shot down

Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves as the New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 for their sixth straight win on Tuesday night.

Lundqvist's first shutout of the season was supported by goals from Jesper Fast, Rick Nash and Ryan McDonagh.

That allowed the Rangers to stretch their early lead in the Metropolitan Division as the Washington Capitals were beaten 1-0 by the Detroit Red Wings.

Petr Mrazek made 38 saves, 15 of them to deny Alex Ovechkin, while Andreas Athanasiou's first NHL goal won it for Detroit.

The Dallas Stars saw a three-game winning streak ended by Toronto as they lost 3-2 to the Maple Leafs at home, with Jake Gardiner scoring the winner with 3:28 remaining in the third period.

The Florida Panthers snapped a five-game losing streak as Jaromir Jagr scored the game winner in the third period to go along with an assist in a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Jagr's goal was his 729th in the NHL, leaving him two behind Marcel Dionne for fourth all time in the league.

Jake Allen had his second straight shutout as the St Louis Blues beat the New Jersey Devils 2-0, with ex-Devil Martin Havlat and Magnus Paajarvi scoring the goals.

The Vancouver Canucks enjoyed a 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Henrik Sedin scored twice in the third period while Jacob Markstrom made 42 saves.

Matt Duchene scored twice as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0, while Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist to help the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Nashville Predators rallied for a 7-5 win over the Ottawa Senators, while a highlight-reel goal from Thomas Vanek contributed to a 5-3 win for the Minnesota Wild over the Winnipeg Jets.

Thomas Greiss made 34 saves as the New York Islanders beat the San Jose Sharks 4-2, while a third-period goal from Brad Richardson lifted the Arizona Coyotes to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings
