The Gunners were the only side inside the top seven of England???s top division to manage all three points at the weekend after a 2-1 away win at West Ham.
The victory meant Arsenal leapfrogged their opponents into fifth place in the league, with only goal difference keeping them outside of the top four.
Although the Gunners have suffered only one defeat since the end of November, Welbeck insists that Arsenal’s focus must rest solely on their next game.??
“The most important thing for us is to concentrate on the next game because we can’t afford to look too far ahead.” Welbeck told Arsenal???s official website.
“We have just got to make sure that we’re ready for each and every game.
“The win (at West Ham) puts us back in amongst it and we need to be further up the table. We want to be gaining points and put the pressure on the teams around us.”
Arsenal???s victory at Upton Park means their upcoming clash with Southampton on New Year???s Day becomes an even more important affair.
If the Gunners manage all three points against Ronald Koeman???s side they can move back inside the top four for the first time since the end of September.
Alternatively, if either side loses and West Ham and Tottenham are both victorious in their games against West Brom and Chelsea, they can drop as low as seventh.
Arsenal have already faced Southampton twice this season, losing in the third round of the Capital One Cup before winning the league match at the start of December.
If they are to beat Koeman???s side and move inside a Champions League qualification spot, Welbeck believes Arsenal must improve, especially in the final third.
“Southampton gave us a difficult test at home and we know how well they have been doing this season, so we have to prepare physically, mentally and tactically right for this game,??? he added.
“Going into the New Year, we want to start it off well. We missed a couple of chances (against West Ham) and that is something we need to improve on.???
