West Ham v West Brom preview

James Tomkins will miss West Ham’s New Year’s Day clash with West Brom through suspension having collected five yellow cards.

The defender was cautioned in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal and will now sit out the visit of the Baggies, with manager Sam Allardyce confirming James Collins will come into the side.

Gunners’ loanee Carl Jenkinson returns to the squad having been ineligible against his parent club, with Allardyce considering freshening up his starting XI following the hectic festive fixture list.

Caretaker head coach Rob Kelly is expected to pick the West Brom squad after the sacking of Alan Irvine on Monday.

But he is likely to be without Victor Anichebe for the trip to West Ham with the striker struggling with a groin injury.

Georgios Samaras was again left out of the squad for the 2-0 defeat at Stoke, which marked the end of Irvine’s six-month reign, but is available after being allowed home for personal reasons.
