The 31-year-old is expected to return to action in the later stages of the seven-match ODI series against New Zealand, which starts in Christchurch on Sunday.
Fast bowler Shaminda Eranga has been left out of the squad, but veteran duo Kumar Sangakkara and??Mahela Jayawardene have been included, along with ex-captain Dinesh Chandimal and off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake,??who was recently cleared to bowl after remedial work on his action.
Sri Lanka will open the World Cup with a game against New Zealand in Christchurch on February 14.
They will also take on Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, Australia and Scotland in Pool A.??
