Top seed Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open on Friday with a routine victory over Germany's Carina Witthoeft.
The Dane won her last eight match 6-3, 6-1 to set up a match against former champion Su-Wei Hsieh from Taiwain.
In her quarter-final, Hsieh required three sets to despatch little-known Elizaveta Kulichkova but came through 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 6-0 against the unheralded Russian.
Kulichkova – who was ranked 171st in the world before this week – will rise up the rankings after a run of good results this week, including a win over seventh-seed Bojana Jovanovski from Serbia.
In the other semi-final, Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru will take on Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova.
Dulgheru upset eigth-seed Julia Goerges from Germany 7-6 (7/5), 7-5, while Gajdosova beat Japan's Kurumi Nara 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
