Angelique Kerber set up a second-round meeting with Sara Errani at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Tuesday, after the German beat Barbora Strycova 6-2, 6-1.
The march lasted under an hour as Kerber, a former world number one but sixth seed for this tournament, put on a show for the adoring crowd.
It was complete dominance from Kerber after she ironically lost the very first game of the match on her own serve.
The hallmarks of her victory were her movement and power from the back of the court.
Speaking afterwards, Kerber said it was always tricky locking horns with Strycova.
“I think I played a good match,” she smiled.
“I played a solid match. It’s always tough to play against her. You never know what’ll happen. She’s always a fighter, but I’m happy to won the match in two sets.”
