After undergoing his second of major wrist surgeries he returned to the ATP Circuit at the Miami Open, but lost in the first round.
The event in Monaco is the start of the clay court season leading up to the French Open which begins on May 25 at Roland-Garros.
Speaking to media, the Argentinean confirms that he is still being bothered by pain in his wrist and is unsure about his participation.
"It still bothers me, but not as much as before," Del Potro said.
"It will be either Monte Carlo or the next tournament. The best training is tournaments."
If the former US Open Champion decides to not take part in the Monte Carlo event, he will in all likelihood be expected to show up for either Barcelona or Bucharest.
