Federer trolled by own kids over award

Roger Federer joked that his own kids reminded him that Rafael Nadal was No 1 in the world after he won an award.

Federer was crowned Swiss Sportsman of the Year on Sunday night, but after receiving the top gong he revealed his own children had swiftly brought him down to earth prior to the ceremony.

“After dinner my kids asked me where I was going,” Federer said.

“I told them there is this awards gala where I could win a prize.

“Then they said: ‘But isn’t Rafa number 1?!'”

Federer went up against gymnast Pablo Bragger, downhill skier Beat Feuz, ice hockey player Roman Josi and handball ace Andy Schmid for the accolade.

But after a hugely successful comeback year that saw him win both the Australian Open and Wimbledon, there was only going to be one winner.

Federer’s achievements were rewarded with 37 per cent of the vote.

The Swiss ace also took to Twitter to congratulate and pay tribute to his coach Severin Luthi, who was named Coach of the Year.

“Congratulations on coach of the year in Switzerland,” Federer wrote.

“So well deserved, lucky to have you on my team.

“You’ve been a rock in my corner for years.

“Thank you.”
