Wild card Nicolas Almagro, who is continuing his comeback from a foot injury, is now two match wins away from 250 clay-court victories after thrashing qualifier Taro Daniel 6-4 6-1 in 64 minutes.

Spain’s Daniel Gimeno-Traver beat Malek Jaziri, of Tunisia, 6-4 6-3 and Algeria’s Lamine Ouahab saw off Robin Haase, of Holland, 6-2 6-4.
