The 34-year-old will compete in the World Group play-off match against Poland at Zielona Gora on April 18-19.
The former world No 1 has not played Fed Cup since the 1998 final in which Switzerland lost to Spain in Geneva.
Hingis must play in the women’s team competition if she wants to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, where she could take part in the mixed doubles event, perhaps alongside Roger Federer.
Hingis won five Grand Slam singles titles between 1997 and 1999, as well as 43 WTA Tour singles crowns.
Nowadays, Hingis only competes in doubles events and earlier this season won the Australian Open mixed doubles title with Leander Paes, as well as the Indian Wells and Miami women???s doubles titles with Sania Mirza.
Hingis will be joined in the Swiss squad by world No 22 Timea Bacsinszky, Stefanie Voegele and Viktorija Golubic as they bid to return to the World Group for the first time since 2004.
