Pliskova claims Eastbourne crown

Karolina Pliskova defeated former world number one Caroline Wozniacki to claim the Aegon International title on Saturday.

The Czech star needed just 80 minutes on the grass courts of the seaside city to defeat Wozniacki 6-4, 6-4 in a superb display of power hitting.

Pliskova was powerful on serve, firing no less than ten aces and winning 82% of her first service points.

The opening set saw just one breakpoint, which gave the advantage to Pliskova, as she converted to take a 4-2 lead in her way to going one set up.

Wozniacki then earned four breakpoints midway through the second set, but Pliskova would save them all as she went on to break the Dane in the penultimate game. Pliskova was resolute on serve as she served out the championship.

The victory earns the world number three her third title of the year and ninth in her career as she heads to Wimbledon in a purple patch of form.
