Top seed Novak Djokovic stayed on course by advancing to the semi-finals of the rain-delayed Eastbourne International on Thursday.

The 30-year-old beat American Donald Young 6-2, 7-6(9) in a match lasting one hour and 37 minutes.

Djokovic was in total control of the opening set, claiming his opponent’s serve in the sixth and eighth games to take it 6-2 in just 27-minutes.

Young took an injury timeout for treatment on what appeared to be a lower back issue, but did not look like it hindered him in the slightest as the second set proceeded.

The next set went with serve for eight games but then Young broke Djokovic's serve to lead 5-4. When serving for the set, however, the American squandered a set point and could not close it out, allowing Djokovic to break back.

The set went to a tiebreaker that was closely contested but in the end, Djokovic saved a set point before going on to claim the breaker 11-9 after converting his fourth match point.

The Serb moves on to face Daniil Medvedev, after he defeated Steve Johnson of the USA 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The second semi-final is an all-French affair between Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet.

Monfils dispatched Bernard Tomic in straight sets while Gasquet saw off the challenge of John Isner.
