Top seeds Johanna Konta and Elina Svitolina were both knocked out of the Birmingham Classic on Thursday.
Top seed Konta, who recently reach the WTA Nottingham final, was sent packing in straight sets by Coco Vandeweghe, losing 6-1, 6-3 on the grass courts of the English city.
The Brit was never in the match, with the American racing out to a 5-0 lead and closing out the opening set in just 25 minutes.
Konta upped her game in the second set, leveling matters at 3-3, but Vandeweghe would reel off the final three games to advance to the quarter-finals.

There, the world number 30 will face sixth seed Garbine Muguruza, after the former French Open winner eased past Alison Riske 6-1, 6-4.
Earlier in the day, second seed Svitolina fell to Camila Giorgi 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 while fifth seed Kristina Mladenovic beat Shuai Zhang 6-4, 7-6(3).
