Eugenie Bouchard is out of the Mallorca Open after losing to Francesca Schiavone 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 on Tuesday.
Bouchard, who was extremely outspoken over Maria Sharapova’s return to tennis following her suspension due to doping, started her match against wildcard, Schiavone, extremely well as she took the opener 7-6 (5) courtesy of some powerful serving and smart groundstrokes.
However, 36-year-old Schiavone has been around a while and knows what it takes to win on the WTA tour and she remained tough.
A tight second stanza followed and after failing to serve out the set at 5-3, Schiavone won it by breaking her Canadian opponent in the very next game.
The decider was a scrappy affair that contained three breaks of serve and in the end it was Schiavone her outlasted Bouchard.

Bouchard, who made the final of Wimbledon in 2014 and who fancies herself as something of a grass court specialist, will be frustrated that she was not able to see off Schiavone. The Italian presents little threat on any surface other than clay.
